Supermercados ECONO upgrades e-commerce platform
Puerto Rico supermarket chain Supermercados ECONO has tapped online grocery specialist Local Express to upgrade its ECONO ToGo e-commerce service.
Using the “drop and play” marketing content management module from Local Express’ software-as-a-service (SaaS) vertical platform, Carolina, Puerto Rico-based ECONO will be able quickly incorporate retail media marketing into its online shopping channels, according to Local Express. The platform also provides bilingual (English and Spanish) content for every level of the e-commerce operation, including live customer-service assistance.
Local Express added that it will be providing “on location” comprehensive training to ECONO store staff.
“We chose the Local Express platform because they integrate a full spectrum of technical capabilities, which will provide our e-commerce consumers with a unique shopping experience while also helping us improve our ‘back-end’ operational processes,” Esteban Colón, chief marketing officer at ECONO, said in a statement. “From easier order entry for our shoppers to optimized delivery routing, their technology has a proven ability to quickly create exceptional ROI.”
Founded in 1970, Supermercados ECONO operates 64 stores in 48 municipalities across Puerto Rico and has a workforce of more than 8,000 employees.

That includes inventory management and full POS integration, delivery options, order fulfillment, in-store kiosk and “scan and pay and go” solutions, marketing services, and real-time data analytics reporting tools. Retailers also have the ability to customize the look and feel of their own branded online storefront, Local Express noted.
