“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022,” said to be the most-watched, televised celebration, marks its 50th year. This year, the show welcomes the first-ever Spanish language countdown live from Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, the festive party set to take place has been reduced to a virtual event due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Originally, the event was going to be celebrated in person with nearly 10,000 people. In mid-December, the situation changed so that attendees must show full vaccination as well as a negative PCR or antigen test. Masks were also to be required.

However, today, the event was canceled for in-person attendance. It will now be entirely virtual, but that will not take away the excitement of the event, which will be the first globally televised Spanish language countdown.

It will take place on the grounds of the Puerto Rico Convention Center within the new entertainment complex, Distrito T-Mobile. Performers throughout the evening will include Eladio Carrión, Daddy Yankee, DJ King Arthur and Joseph Fonseca among many others. Performers around the area will include well-known salsa legends El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Gilberto Santarosa plus and meringue group Límite 21.

Co-hosted by Puerto Rican actress and singer Roselyn Sanchez (also appearing on Fox’s “Fantasy Island”), this first-ever celebration for Puerto Rico is timed to honor San Juan’s 500th anniversary.

The hosts for ABC’s other live events include Ryan Seacrest and Liza Koshy at the annual Times Square countdown in New York and Ciara and Billy Porter in Los Angeles and New Orleans. All of the broadcasts will have a modified format due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Near Distrito T-Mobile are several hotels including the Aloft, which participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. There are numerous other hotels in the area, including properties participating in World of Hyatt and Hilton Honors among others.

The show, named “Puerto Rico Para el Mundo,” will broadcast live on ABC (as well as on Telemundo) on New Year’s Eve with Puerto Rico’s countdown taking place just before 11:00 P.M EST (midnight in San Juan).
