According to the U.K. Navy, two projectiles reportedly struck the Thai-flagged Mayuree Naree off the coast of Oman, setting the ship on fire and forcing at least 20 crewmembers to evacuate. Three crewmembers were reported missing by a Thai maritime official. Iran’s IRGC Navy later confirmed that it had fired on the ship after it ignored warnings not to traverse the strait.

Another commercial vessel, the Star Gwyneth, suffered limited hull damage when it “was hit by a projectile above the waterline,” according to a statement from the vessel’s owner, Star Bulk Carriers.

And a third vessel, the One Majesty container ship, suffered minor damage from a projectile when it was some 50 nautical miles off the coast of Dubai.

The apparent strikes had an immediate effect:

As of March 12, there have been at least 16 confirmed attacks on vessels in the region, which have killed at least eight people. About 20,000 people remain stranded aboard ships in the Persian Gulf as a result of the war.
