Walgreens To Expand Covid 19 Vaccination To Pharmacies In 23 States

Walgreens said it will begin receiving more than 480,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses weekly as part of the broader effort to increase vaccination at U. S. pharmacies in more than 20 states and jurisdictions. The Biden administration earlier this week said it was increasing the number of doses sent to states while doubling the number of doses sent directly to U. S. retail pharmacies including CVS Health and Walgreens. On Friday, Walgreens said it will “receive a weekly allocation of more than 480,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses” beginning Feb. 25. Drugstores in the following U. S. states and jurisdictions will get the doses: Alaska, Arizona, California, Chicago, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, New York City, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Puerto Rico, U. S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Walgreens said it began in-store vaccinations in 17 states and jurisdictions on Feb. 12 under the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. “The company administered nearly all 180,000 doses of the first weekly vaccine allotment within three days,” Walgreens said. In addition, Walgreens said it has provided more than 3 million COVID-19 vaccinations across long-term care facilities and other “vulnerable populations prioritized by state and local jurisdictions.”“We have rapidly accelerated vaccine administration in long-term care facilities over the last month, and will continue to expand access to vaccines in our pharmacies as supply becomes available,” Walgreens president John Standley said.
