PRIDCO, EPA Reach $11 Million Settlement for Superfund Clean Up
Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company has agreed to pay the Environmental Protection Agency $11 million for clean up costs at the Maunabo Groundwater Superfund Site in Puerto Rico, EPA said Wednesday.
The groundwater is contaminated with organic compounds such as tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, and cis-1,2-dichloroethene, according to the agency.
The settlement resolves PRIDCO’s financial obligations for the site as a result of a civil lawsuit, EPA said. EPA will be reimbursed for assessing the contamination, designing the remedy, and cleaning up the groundwater contamination.
